Erith were  appointed as PC to deliver the enabling works for the new factory extension at for a Prestige car brand at Chichester. Basically it involves moving an earthworks bund which currently hides the factory to another part of the site. The area revealed by moving this bund will be the new factory extension. Our involvement here is to move the bund and rebuild it, introduce a reinforced soil wall and landscaping. Also a couple of new swales and large diameter pipes through the bund, a new entrance in, diverted public footpath and then the pile platform and piles for the new building. It sounds simple but there is a lot involved. Lots of surveys and volumes. Erith needed someone who could do the engineering but also create the models for GPS machines, earthworks progress and the settting out. They required someone who was self sufficient so here I come complete with total station, GPS, laptop and all the software required to manipulate the drawings and data to create the designs for the machines. I have had to create the formation model from scratch, luckily I have LSS to do this. I have created several designs with which the dozers can cover all the site with a model. It has required a lot of fill material for the platform for the reinforced soil wall, the bund itself and the new entrance. The area with the cut material will be the ground improvement zone and the car park.

We had to install 10,000 cmc piles in the building zone. I hadnt worked on cmc's before so every day is a learning curve. The process for us involved digging out the pads to underside of foundation the same day as the piles were cast. Some of these pad cut offs were 3m deep and quite big so a man couldnt get near to check the dig. We hired in a 13t machine with GPS on, so I created the mdel for the underside of pad foundations, I even put the piles on so the driver could ensure they dug them all out.

This is great job its ideal for me as we are doing the work, Erith and the people involved are sound and its a pleasure to come into work.
