Deer Park School - Botley
Hired by Harringtons Builders plc
Feb 2020 - 27 Aug 2020
Harringtons have the groundworks and externals package for this new £20m school. The main contractor is Kier. Harringtons had their own engineer who visited, but they decided that he was too busy elsewhere and this job required full time input for the next 20 weeks or so. Here I am providing the instrument, the laptop with autocad and LSS. Without LSS I wouldnt have been able to create the 3d surface model which is needed for the Trimble dozer, comparing the surfaces today with design and 3d strings for kerblines etc. My role here as engineer is to set everything out and keep the Harringtons operatives and machines busy. Its been full on and very quick learning curve through some atrocious weather!! I have / had on the go...
- Setting out pile caps, groundbeams, 160 sets of holding down bolts on 2 buildings (now complete)
- Setting out the drainage, manholes, pipes, swales, dry retention basin etc
- Setting out kerbs for car park and entrance road
- Setting out utilities
- Created the 3d model for export to the Trimble guided dozer for the car park and playground areas.
- As builts and QA
- Quantifying topsoil stockpiles
- Setting out foundations for a new temporary bridge
- Setting out for a couple of large tanks
- Setting out foundations for an 80m long footbridge
- various other surveys / drawings
My time towards the end was split between here and Farnham UCA . The foundations are all in so I've been doing the setting out for a few retaining walls, drainage, 100m of road and a new car park.
I liked working with Harringtons, the management are fair and the operatives know what they are doing. Towards the end of August 2020 we got to the stage of the job that the engineer was no longer required. I left them with extensive as builts and surveys and hopefully I'll be able to work for them again.
