Corunna Zone B Infrastructure, Wellesley, Aldershot
Hired by Careys Civil Engineering
July 2016 - April 2017

Infrastructure (drainage, roads, footpaths, services etc) for Corunna which is phase 2 of the Wellesley, development at Aldershot. 5 no roads totalling 900 linear metres , with numerous belmouths off. There are 40 odd crossings, 75 gullies, surface and foul drainage ranging from 150 - 900mm diameter, 1200 - 1800mm diameter manholes upto 3m deep. The road is to be adopted by Hampshire County Council and drainage works adopted by Seven Trent Water.

I am responsible for all setting out, engineering control and surveys. I am using a trusty Leica TS15 with the Viva controller. We trialled 3d gps machine control and I have created the 3d models for the GPS machine control system, (we used leica & Topcon),  I upload to the machine, which made our life so much easier. I am constantly checking that we are in the same ballpark and it is. I am responsible for ensuring the data is current and correct, that the machine works, and modifying to make it easy for the operator to use. We are using it for the reduced level dig, the stoning up, the service crossings etc etc. Mick the driver who was originally against the system "why do i need this i've been driving machines for 20 years?" now loves it as it gives him more control. His 22t machine is the busiest on site.

There are numerous stockpiles of recycled 6f2 which used to be the old army barracks, which i have surveyed their volumes and monitor how much we are using.

Other Projects

In addition to aldershot, i have been providing settting out / surveys etc on a couple of other schemes for Careys on an ad hoc basis over the last year.
  1. WOW lorry park for BMW Oxford Plant - basically this was an existing car park that had a big dish in it, that was to be tarmacked over and made into a lorry park. I had to survey the existing area and work out the volume of tarmac required to suit the new levels, then setting out for new barriers, white lines etc.
  2. Peacock Shopping Centre Ramp Refurbishment - basically an existing one way ramp to the shopping centre to be made into a 2 way ramp....and it leaked.  Involved planing off the tarmac and kerbs, adding an extra bit then rewaterproof then put back.  Broken into 3 phases to maintain traffic flow. Surveys for quantities, setting out for new parapet walls, kerbs etc
  3. Binfield Learning Village - a new school which Careys are doing the groundworks, substructure and externals etc. I looked after the sports pitch earthworks. This involves ogl surveys, cut fill quantities, surveys and setting out pitches etc.
  4. Tunnel Tech, Leckford, Hampshire - £4.5m worth of concrete bunkers and pipework at the mushroom farm. I was here for a couple of weeks holiday cover, and I am still processing data for them.
  5. PRS Aldershot - pre start surveys, OGL, stone stockpiles etc for this looming PRS scheme
